How did you meet?
It was a modern romance. Akash saw my profile on a dating app and that we had a mutual friend. He contacted the friend who set us up. From day one, our conversation has been endless, effortless, and engaging. For our first date, he took me to one of Toronto’s most happening restaurants. It may have been love at first sight, but it was definitely love at the firstst-six-hours-of-nonstop-conversation.
Tell us about the proposal.
It was a normal Thursday and Akash asked me whether we could meet for dinner. We met at the subway station and Akash was looking dapper in a suit and I was feeling slightly under-dressed for what I thought was a simple dinner date. He led me to a courtyard in the University of Toronto where we had walked through during our first date. Under the same tree where we had chatted for hours, Akash got down on one knee and proposed. After the initial surprise, I accepted, but the surprises were not over. Akash had arranged for our closest friends and family to greet us as we entered the same restaurant where we had our first date. It was truly a magical day.
Which hotels did you choose for your functions?
JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa
How many guests were there:
170
What is your best memory from your wedding?
There are too many to choose from. One of my favourites is looking out from the mandap, which was over a lotus pond and seeing everyone who was important to the two of us smiling back at us. It was unbelievable that they had travelled far and wide to celebrate with us. Another unforgettable memory was throwing the wildest pool party, complete with delicious food, a massage corner, pool games and a live DJ and saxophonist.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples?
Work hard during the planning stage but don’t forget to have fun. Don’t lose sight of the fact that you are planning a CELEBRATION so it shouldn’t be a chore. The most important thing is that you are (hopefully) marrying the love of your life –everything else is just logistics.
Functions: We had six functions in different venues at the hotel itself, where we served our guests Indian, Thai and international buffets. For entertainment we had a DJ, dhol players, and a saxphone player.
