How did you meet?
Both Shubham and I are former International table tennis players from India. I am an Olympian and Shubham is a 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games Silver medalist. We have known each other since 2004 during our junior days playing table tennis for India and have been good friends since then. Once Shubham quit playing, he joined his family business in 2013. After I retired in 2014, I went to New York City for my Masters. When I returned to India, we decided to take it forward. Both our families happily agreed. The roka happened on 20th March 2017 and we got married on 9th December 2017”
Tell us about the proposal.
Shubham ew down to Delhi and surprised me with the ring and a big cake, which said “ Will You Marry Me?” The entire family knew about it except for me. I had no clue and was completely surprised. It was magical.
Why did you choose Thailand?
Thailand is known for its amazing hospitality, sandy beaches, scrumptious food and close proximity to India, making it the ideal choice for our destination wedding.
Why did you pick the particular city?
We chose Hua Hin as it’s a quiet beachside city, only three hours away from Bangkok. There is a long stretch with some of the best hotels in the world. The moment we saw Sheraton Hua Hin, we knew it was where we wanted to get married.
Which hotels did you choose for your functions?
All the celebrations were at the Sheraton Hua Hin.
How many guests were there:
What is your best memory from your wedding?
All three days at the wedding were the most memorable days of my life. We had all our close family and friends together for those days, which I doubt will ever happen again. As a bride, it was a fairytale as everyone there made me feel like the most beautiful and special person ever!
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples?
As an Indian bride, if you want to really enjoy your own wedding, definitely opt for a destination wedding at a nearby location. Find a planner that understands your vision and preferences. The planner will organise everything for you and pay attention to the little details that you would never think of. It’s a lot fun to have all your close friends and family staying together under one roof for few days to celebrate your new journey with you.
As far as marriage is concerned, the key is to communicate and stay strong for each other. From enjoying the little things in life together to reaching milestones, marriage is beautiful. There should be no ego involved, as both husband and wife need to be together as one, especially in the tough times.
Functions: Our wedding was celebrated over three days, but on each day we had 3-4 events with different themes, including ‘Tuk Tuk Diaries’, Santorini Sunset, Hong Kong Hustle, Broadway, and Love in Tokyo. At most of the events we had a variety of entertainment such as Thai long drummers, DJs, Broadway, Hawaiian and Salsa dancers, dholwalas, and a cello player in a LED bubble.
